Airports & Flights in Maldives
The Maldives’ main airport is called Malé International Airport (airport code: MLE). It is located on Hulhulé Island on the North Malé Atoll, and is the hub for Maldivian Airlines. The Malé International Airport houses a duty free area, other shops and cafes, a play area for children, a bank, a post office, an internet café, a pharmacy, and showers. All international passengers go through customs and border control at Malé, and planes and passengers from zones where malaria or yellow fever is present may have to undergo a decontamination process.
A regional airport on Gan Island, Seenu Atoll, has recently been renovated and renamed the Gan International Airport (code: GAN), but at the moment, Malé handles all the international traffic to the Maldives.
There are three other regional airports in the Maldives, all named after the islands upon which they are located: Hanimaadhoo Airport (Haa Dhaalu Atoll, code: HAQ), Kaadedhdhoo Airport (Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, code: KDM), and Kadhdhoo Airport (Laamu Atoll, code: KDO).
Island hops can be made on Trans Maldivian Airways and Maldivian Air Taxi (PDE) Ltd., whose offices can be found at Malé International Airport.
